Sage @ The Gardens

Feeling generous on a weekday I invited my sis for lunch in Sage. I always wanted to drop by Sage year by year pass by . Finally I make it here. I been to Cilantro countless time, love their food so much

Interior of Sage, was cool and elegant.

Here's the photo of my pretty lunch mate, before I show you all the food.

We ordered both discover lunch menu.

Bread as starter with basil, Parmesan and olive dip. The dip was very appetizing bread was serve hot from the oven.

Free welcome  drink, Soda mint mojito. Nice..

        Carpaccio of Hamachi

This the starter, carpaccio of hamachi with scallop tartare and avruga caviar. This dish was made to superb. The fish was fresh enhanced by the scallop tartare and caviar.

           Duck Confit

Duck confit as starter, this dish can be made to a main on its on. The sick confit was dressed with sesame dressing. Pretty interesting compare to classic duck confit. The skin of the duck was done perfectly crispy. But I find the meat slightly dry to my liking.

    Steamed Halibut

Now comes the main dish, steamed halibut wrapped with yuba and mushroom. Overall taste was ok. I find the piece of foe grais slightly bitter. The yuba( bean curd) was quite sweet.

            Medallion of beef

Medallion of beef is actually fillet mignon or commonly known as tenderloin. We love this dish more than the fish. The Spanish anchovy butter and the red wine really enhance the beef steaks.

       Cheese in a platter

     Praline parfait

Both dessert were good. The cheese, Robuchon and blue cheese were superb.i like the robuchon cheese more, taste pretty heavy.
Parfait was nice too

Overall we enjoy the meal and environment alot. And the is only Rm100 nett per set meal, good bargain.

La Creperie de Caroline@ Bangsar Telawi 3

This morning my bunch off BFF and I went to Bangsar for lunch. We went to a few restaurants, either the place was too full or too cramp for 8 of us plus two babies. Bump  into La Creperia Caroline accidentally while searching for place , the restaurant was pretty empty perfect for all of us. Greated warmly by a French Couple, gotten to know the restaunrant was only 10days old.

A nice and quiet place. The deco is simple and warm.

Breton Crepes (Sweet) and galletes( Savory) are best known specialities from the West region of France. Brittany, a region in northwest of France where is where the tools and techniques wee created and perfected, elevating the crepe to an art form.( Quoted from the menu)

The dishes were all in French, even with description we still totally got not idea what is it. Just be aware that they only serve crepes nothing more than that, savory or sweet.

The hot chocolate amuse me. First time being serve a hot chocolate in this way. The cup came with chocolate paste.

Tadaa.. After adding milk and a good stir. Here's a cup of nicely form hot chocolate. Taste wise I find it quite good.

La Breitz Burger ( RM 32.00)

Here's the dishes we order. Basically we order all the dishes recommend by the boss.
First to be served was the so call beef burger, La Breitz Burger. We did get a shock when we saw it we were expecting a burger formation as per title. Pretty amazing I should say, consisted of mince beef, egg, tomato and some stew veggie plus cheese. We find it pretty good.

La Pont- Aven (RM 32.00)

Next come the La Pont- Aven, consists of shrimps, scallop and fondue leek. Taste wise not bad.

La Complete (RM 25.00)

Here's the one we like the most we reorder this for second round, La Complete. Made of egg, turkey ham and cheese. Taste good and it's pretty special.

La Stanislas( RM 27.00)

La Stanislas is the name. Crepes wrap with goat cheese and Ratatouille. My friends don't like it at all. They find the goat cheese smells was overwhelming. For me I am ok with the cheese. But I don't like the Ratatouille, it tasted bland.

La Forestiere ( RM 28.00)

Last but no least here's  La Forestiere, basically comes with chicken chunks, mushroom and egg. Tasted ok. Not really memorable.

               Creme D' Oranges ( RM 39.00)

After all the savory crepes, we need desserts to balance back the meal. Look at it is all flamed up with Grand Marnier liquor. We like it, pretty awesome taste, the liquor enhance the fruitiness of the orange.

Chocolat Maison Et Bananas ( RM 29.00)

All my friends commented the chocolate paste look lik sh*t  shape. Chocolat Maison Et bananas, just crepes too with chocolate , grilled bananas sprinkle with icing. To me it taste like chocolate roti pisang.

Here's the pretty little angel Xixi to end the blog. We find the crepes pretty special, but best order a few for sharing. After eating so many types we find it quite jelat. Taste almost the same, just the topping were different. Just stay with La complete, the beef burger and the desserts.

Revisit Ocean PoInt @ kota kemuning

Revisited  Ocean point for an early dinner with sis today. We order back our all time favorite Fish head noodle . Added two dishes cause she's super hungry.

This the steam fish ball. Big and bouncy. Made of sai toh Yu( some kind of fish famous for making fish ball) mixed with pork. The fish ball here is very good ,kinda expensive at RM 2.50/ball. But for the quality is worth it.

Fried salted egg yolk squid ( Hamdan sotong) RM 24. Can see from the photo that is slightly different from the crispy version you found outside. It's tasty, the egg yolk taste was really strong. My sister like it.. I am ok with it, I prefer it to be more crispy .

Check my previous blog for the fishhead noodles

Anjappar Indian cuisine @Bangsar

One fine Saturday afternoon we were craving for some Indian food. Wanna be more adventurous we visited Anjappar. Originally from northern Indian serving Chentinnad cuisine. Chentinnad cuisine uses more spices in they dishes . Anjappar have quite a number of branches around the world.

We ordered two mutton briyani for sharing. Comes with mutton and an egg. The portion was quite huge. We find that the mutton was rather gamy in texture , taste wise was nothing to shout about. The egg was jjust a normal hard boiled egg. Inside the  rice we can see a number of spices there, but does not add any plus point to the taste , briyani was way too soft too our  liking. It's look like bryani but certainly don't taste like one. Would rate it in between bad and moderate.

Recommended by the waiter this mutton sukka Varuval. Looks pretty good right . But the texture was no way up to Indian restaurant standard. The meat was coarse and gamy. Taste so so only.

Well overall we don't really enjoy it, i definetely won't be back. WeI still prefer fiery house briyanis and Nirvana and devis curries.

Best Roti Tisu @ Ah Neh Mamak Jinjang Selatan

Everybody's friendly neighbourhood is always Mamak. We always crave for a good piece of roti for our supper. Most of them would only be able to fill your stomach and ease a little bit of the crave temporary, but this one here - hidden gem, offering the best roti in town.

This stall is hidden in Jinjang Selatan, it will definitely take  some effort to find this place. This friendly mamak probably popular among the kepong and segambut residents but definitely not many would know them. No signage found & they operate in a house.
Teh Tarik & Limau Panas

Roti One Malaysia ( Special Roti Tisu) RM 4

This dish here is the reason the mamak is always packed with people, they sliced it into pieces and the roti is topped with a lot of milo powder, nestum & peanuts. Pretty sinful, but it is very very good!! Roti  was thin and crispy, peanuts was crunchy, milo powder gave you the taste while nestum provided the smell & fragrance. Superb combinations. Super addictive stuff.

Roti Kosong

Another great one worth a mention, crispy roti canai was really good. The roti canai from other mamak normally is pretty oily usually soft and fluffy. But this one is a totally different version providing a crispy and oil-free type of Roti Kosong - best to go with a perfect plate of Curry!

Maggi Mee Goreng Telur Mata

Again, they are not the usual maggi goreng, they cooked the noodle with sardines, onions & sausages topped with a perfectly done  telur mata kerbau. It tasted very different from those you get outside. No harm giving it a try.

Nasi Lemak Panas, Roti Pisang & Mutton Curry are their signature dishes too.

Ikura( Salmon Roe) Mentaiko Don Recipe

I decided to make ikura mentaiko don for dinner the other day. I always love the feeling when the ikura pops in my mouth.  Ikura is also known as salmon roe, all the ikura found In supermarket had been marinated before.
Mentaiko is known as marinated roe of pollock and cod. You can taste a little spiciness in this mentaiko. It's goes really well with spaghetti and rice.
Ikura

Big sack of mentaiko ( RM 48.80/ 100g)

Mentaiko ikura don

Here's the recipe for this don. It's very easy to make and super delicious. I purchased all my ingredients from Isetan KLCC

Ingredients
Salmon roe( Ikura)
mentaiko
Japanese rice
Japanese rice vinegar

Method
1) Drained the salmon roe with water first to remove the stickiness.  After draining it you see them shinier and it taste better .

2) Wash and boiled the Japanese rice. Remember to add slightly more water, 1cup of rice to 1 1/3 cup of water.

3) When the rice is cooked, just leave it too cool it down.  I prefer too add some Japanese sushi vinegar to it to make it tastier. You can skip this if you don't like it.

4) Scoop the rice out and top the rice with generous amount of ikura and mentaiko.

Bonbori Japanese Cuisine @ Setia walk Puchong

We love Japanese food, we visited  many Japanese restaurant around town just to try out the different dishes they served. When we were exploring Setia walk while waiting for our movie , we saw Bonbori and it was quite pack. Good impression, pack either mean the food is darn good or they are darn cheap, Bonburi hit in between this two points. They serve pretty decent Japanese food at a very affordable price.

Pretty Lady Boss Catherine

Pretty geisha mural drawn on the wall

Salmon salad ( RM 13.90)

Salmon salad serve with sesame sauce. Pretty decent, the salmon was fresh.

Unagi maki( RM 19.90h

Unagi is a must everytime, we visited a Japanese restaurant.   A good piece of unagi shouldn't have any fishy smell, thick , fatty and the skin should be tender but not too soft. This unagi maki is ok, if to compare, it's better than Sakae sushi but not as good as premium restaurant unagi. I find it a little fishy. I don't really like it when they serve the maki with mayonnaise all over it. I highlighted to the lady boss, she say next time I can't inform them not to put it in. But for the price is good stuff.

Soft shell crab maki(rm 12.90)

The soft shell crab maki tasted better than the unagi maki. Generous amount of soft shell crab was included.

 Grilled Saba fish

The Saba fish is pretty good.  The fish was fresh .Addition of RM 8.00 you get a fullset meal with rice, chawan mushi, salad and miso soup.

Miso claypot salmon head (rm25.90)
The boss told us their speciality dish was salmon head , what we had in mind is grilled salmon fish head.  She say noo.. Hers was simmer salmon fish head in claypot, either in miso or kimchi broth. We ordered the miso broth, salmon fish was really fresh and the meat is tender, they did a good job by not over cooking it. We find the broth a little too sweet to our liking.  We did make a comment to the boss, she said the chef added sake to the broth, next if we don't like it they can custom the broth.

Mixed fruit tea ( rm 17.90)

I normally don't order fruit tea when I am in Japanese restaurant. But my partner wanted to try it out, it's very refreshing with lots of fruits in it.

We wanted to order the uni sushi to try out, but sadly she said they only serve only on Thursday. Guess we have to drop by another day.

Overall the meal here are decent ,generous, and affordable. The staff and the boss is very attentive and really give you full attention.
